Palm Craft

Yesterday Jonathan and I made 25 palm frond creations. Another group was due in last night. We created a bit of Honduras out of a tree that grows everywhere to be placed on each bed as a welcome.

Here birds and fish are suspended on the rib of the leaflet that each was made out of.
Here a closeup of the bird.
The roses...our latest attempt. We still need to perfect this one.
The grass hopper...Jonathan's specialty. He can whip one of these out in a just a few minutes.

Hotel Sugery

When Brian's arm became infected to the point of needing to be drained surgically, we were so thankful that a medical team just happened to be here to conduct clinics in a third world country.

We met the doctor at his hotel room and he set up and in no time he had drained and cleaned the wound.

Traditional Honduran Dress

About a month ago, I picked up the traditional Honduran folk dress that I had ordered the week before. In this picture I am standing in the little corner 'shop' in a huge market. In the past, as a seamstress, I was paid to sew for other people, and it was a strange thing for me have my measurments taken and have someone else do all the sewing. I was a little disapointed in the workmanship of the finished product and the fabric was terribly scratchy. Still, I am pleased to have my very own Honduran dress, made to measure.

Flower Poofs

These flowers mature into a fruit similar to an apple in appearance, but they don't taste near as good. The pink burst of tiny petals are edible too, but it is hard to get a mouth full so you can enjoy the sweet flavor. They fall to the ground and cover the jungle floor with a hot pink carpet. From a distance, it looks like someone spray-painted a circle of hot pink under the tree. (If you click on the photo, you can see a close up where you can see how the tiny petals look like a fiber optic display.)

Just Like Uncle Chris

Andrew, who likes to copy his uncle's hairstyle, went a step farther this time. Notice the matching stuffed lion. Hope Chris is flattered.

Reflection

Same flood. I liked the flip-flop grounded safely in a semi-dry spot and the reflection of the kids sweeping water out onto the porch.

Pages

When our house flooded a couple of weeks ago, my jewelry making book was in a bag on the floor. Unfortunately in leaked and the book was sopping wet. I cut all the pages off the spine and laid them out over several beds in the dorm to dry.
