Behind a Gate

Samuel and Josue...both imprisoned by a different kind of bars...their physical and mental disabilities. Still such sweet little boys...

Sewing in the Village

Today, I went out to the village of Guadalupe and worked with a sewing group. I taught them how to make these wrap skirts. My Spanish is still pretty sad so we did a lot of pointing, but it seems we communicated just fine. I hope to share another project with them soon.
The ladies sew most days in this small one room building. There is no electricity. The bright sunshine streams in through big windows. They use treadle machines and do a fine job with them. They make many "bolsas", bags in all styles and sizes. The bags are sold at a local shop with other crafts from the villagers and native people elsewhere in Honduras.

Erica

Erica is profoundly retarded, deaf, and can only see out of one eye. She explores her world be touching and smelling. Today she got into a bottle of black paint and spilled a big puddle on the floor. She actually didn't get that much on herself! Once she got it opened and could smell it easily, her curiosity was satisfied...for the time being.

Necklace

A horrid rash made it impossible for me to wear my wedding band on my hand and being the romantic person I am, I needed some other way to keep it close by. I don't have a plain chain to wear in on here so I made this necklace to carry it instead.

Just a bunch of mis-matched beads...its a little on the loud side for my tastes, but I do like wearing it. Usually in a knot tied just above the wedding band. For some reason this makes me think its more secure.

Food and Fruit

Pickled, deviled eggs
(Leave peeled, hard boiled eggs in a brine of salt
water, vinegar, and food coloring overnight.
Then make into traditional deviled eggs. Got
high marks from the kids...not so high from hubby!)

Big Mangos or Small Pineapple? Or both?
(Yes, I copied LaGringa!)
